John has a proven executive management track record for over two decades driving corporate growth programmes across various functional areas in the financial services sector. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Association of Banks (GAB). Before joining GAB, he was Managing Partner of Jawuah & Co. Advisors, a financial services consulting firm. John is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a member of the Institute of chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) with several years post qualification senior management experience. He holds Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast and MBA from Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has previously worked with Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bank and in prior careers, held senior leadership positions as Finance Director at GCB Bank, Group Chief Finance Officer at Ecobank Capital, Financial Controller at Barclays Bank of Ghana (now ABSA Bank), Chief Finance Officer at UBA Ghana and as Finance Business Partner at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana with industry exposure from Tractor & Equipment Ghana (now Mantrac) and Western Castings Limited. John has broad knowledge in investment banking and has been part of many landmark deals from his time at Ecobank Capital and as Managing Director of UMB Bank.

He serves a member of a number of Boards and National Committees including Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana, Ghana Association of Banks, Legacy Bonds Limited, Cocoa Sector Marketing Committee of COCOBOD, Domestic Credit Rating Agency Implementation Committee, Capital Markets Master Plan Implementation Committee, Venture Capital Trust Fund Investment Committee, National Clean Energy Access Program (NCEP), Payment Systems Advisory Committee – Bank of Ghana, Ghana Financial Stability Fund Investment Committee.

At GAB Health Insurance, Mr. Awuah contributes his deep expertise in banking, finance, and accounting to the board sub-committee of the Finance, Audit & Risk Management Committee (FARIMAC) and the Nomination, Legal, Governance & Compensation Committee (NLGCC).
